Dance Around the World this May Half Term

Central’s Dance Around the World course this May half term will feature four new dance styles for participants to try. Dance Around the World takes place every half term and offers the chance for dancers of all abilities aged 8 – 16 years to try four dance styles from around the globe. This May half term dancers will be able to try Spanish, Bollywood, Morris Dancing and Ballet.

Participants will be introduced to Spanish dance by Michelle Wilson who trained at Elmhurst Ballet School before performing professionally around the world. On retiring from professional dance, she ran a successful ballet school in Brighton, gaining Distinction in her Royal academy of Dance teaching certificate. Michelle has also taught dance in several successful dance academies in Australia and is a tutor for the Royal Academy of Dance.

The Belles of London City will give dancers a masterclass in Morris Dancing! The Belles of London City are a vibrant and energetic Morris Dancing company based in Southwark. With traditional folk rhythms, high jumping, and audience participation they delight audiences around the country with Morris Dancing for the 21st Century.

Arunima Kumar will teach Bollywood dance on the course, bringing her expertise as one of the leading Kuchipudi dancers of her generation. Arunima is the recipient of several awards including the Sangeet Natak Akademi’s prestigious Ustad Bismillah Khan Yuva Puraskaar for 2008, awarded by the President of India, to artists who have demonstrated exceptional talent in the fields of music, dance, and drama.

The day will also feature a ballet class suitable for all abilities for participants to experience ballet training at the heart of Central’s professional facilities. For those who have never tried ballet before, the class will provide the opportunity to discover the artform in one of Europe’s leading dance training organisations. More experienced dancers will have the chance to develop their technique in world-renowned studios.

Dance Around the World is open to those aged 8 – 16 and costs £20 for the day.
