Ballet Intensives

Central School of Ballet offers a range of intensive ballet courses for dancers aged 8 – 16 throughout the year. One Day Ballet Intensives are available each half term for dancers of different ages. At Easter, dancers can join Central’s Spring Course to experience life in a full time vocational ballet school. There are also one week and two week courses available in the summer for both UK and international dancers.

One Day Ballet Intensive (8 – 10 Years)

This intensive ballet course offers participants the opportunity to improve classical technique in the setting of a full-time vocational ballet school.

Participants should wear their regular ballet uniform of leotard, tights, and ballet shoes. Girls may wish to wear convertible tights for ease of transition between classes. We recommend that participants are equipped with a pen and notebook during the course in order to make the most of their learning experience.

Course Outline

This course is part of Central’s popular series of One Day Ballet Intensives for girls and boys of different ages and abilities. The day aims to introduce dancers to the experience of training in a vocational ballet school taught by teachers from Central’s Degree faculty. Note that this course is specifically for young people with a minimum of RAD Grade 2 or equivalent in the 8-1o age range. The one day course includes ballet and repertoire as well as an additional class is included in the course, in either jazz, Pilates, contemporary or improvisation.

The day aims to develop dancers experience of training in a vocational ballet school taught by teachers from Central’s degree faculty. Note that this course is specifically for young people with a minimum of RAD Intermediate or equivalent in the 14-16 age range. The Audition Preparation course includes ballet, coaching and contemporary classes, all taught by degree course tutors, providing participants with the opportunity to fully immerse themselves in the experience of training at Central, a world-class professional training organisation.

Spring Course (11-16 years)

The Spring Course offer aspiring dancers aged 11-16 the opportunity to experience a taste of full-time professional training at Central School of Ballet and to learn from tutors who teach Central’s Foundation and BA Undergraduate courses.

Open to boys and girls aged 11-16 years old, in school years 7-11, with a minimum of RAD Intermediate Foundation or equivalent

Course Outline

The course offers aspiring dancers aged 11-16 the opportunity to experience a taste of full-time professional training at Central School of Ballet and to learn from tutors who teach Central’s Foundation and BA Undergraduate programmes. The course includes a Ballet class every day, with pointe work / boys coaching scheduled for every alternate day. Other classes are included to provide experience of various dance and related disciplines such as Contemporary, Repertoire and Pilates. Subject to the length of the course, other dance disciplines such as Jazz, Character or Creative Choreography may also be included and, subject to the minimum number of boys applying, a boy’s only Ballet class will also be scheduled. Participation in Central’s Spring Course is subject to meeting the age and minimum grade requirements. Please note, accommodation and meals are not provided on this course.

International Summer Courses (11-16 years)

The Summer Courses attract talented dancers from around the globe and provide an immersive taste of life in full-time training at Central School of Ballet. There are one week and two week courses available. Optional English lessons can be booked for international students attending the two week course for an additional fee.

Entry Requirements

Open to boys and girls aged 11-16 years old, in school years 7-11, with a minimum of RAD Intermediate Foundation or equivalent for 11-13 years and a minimum of RAD Intermediate or equivalent for 14-16 years.
