Central Introduces New Southwark Residents Discount

17 January 2024

A New Year gift has arrived for Southwark residents, in the form of a 10% discount for all Central School of Ballet regular drop-in adult dance classes! The classes, which run every evening throughout the week and at weekends, offer four styles of dance and various levels to suit all ages and abilities – Ballet, Contemporary, Contemporary African and Jazz.

In 2021, Central School of Ballet moved into the purpose-built and brand-new Countess of Wessex Studios. Located in London’s thriving Southbank arts community in Southwark, the classes are a short walk from Southwark, Waterloo, and Blackfriars tube stations. The studios feature exceptional facilities including seven stunning dance studios, a fully equipped studio theatre, a specialist health suite, study spaces, and resource centre. The 10% discount is part of Central’s commitment to nurturing the arts in Southwark and bringing more people into activities that improve mental wellbeing and fitness. The Southwark residents discount is an extension of the existing 10% discount on classes for children and young people.

Central offers a fantastic selection of ballet classes with professional teachers such as Hubert Essakow, ex Royal Ballet Soloist and Rambert dancer, as well as a range of Central’s degree course tutors. With multiple levels of ballet classes to choose from, there is no need to worry about feeling out of your depth! Ballet is a fantastic opportunity to improve balance, strength and flexibility by working through exercises that are relevant to the level of the class. From Beginner Improver and General Improver through to Intermediate and Advanced, as well as RAD adult classes in vocational grades, we are positive that there is a class suitable for all levels of experience. Alongside ballet, the discount is also available for Central’s Contemporary and Jazz classes.

In June last year Central introduced two new Neighbourhood classes, with a heavily discounted rate available to residents of Southwark and Lambeth. These classes aimed to welcome the local community into the school and encourage participation in dance. The Neighbourhood classes will continue running with the Southwark and Lambeth residents discount of 50%. The classes consist of a Beginners/General Contemporary African class and Beginners Ballet. Central is keen to ensure that people feel welcome and are excited to try a dance class or new genre for the first time. The Neighbourhood classes are with the same teacher every week and aim to introduce attendees to the style and help them find enjoyment through movement.

Central has been building very special relationships with many aspects of Southwark’s community. Mark Osterfield, Central’s Executive Director, said: “We know that Central’s adult classes are an increasingly popular way to have fun, but also to help improve wellbeing. This new discount is specifically aimed at our local neighbourhood, hoping that we can encourage more people to try dance.”
