Central Auditions Continue in Leeds and Cornwall

Central School of Ballet concluded its preliminary in-person auditions at two locations in the UK this February. Artistic Director, Kate Coyne, and other members of Central’s staff travelled to Northern Ballet in Leeds on Sunday 11 February, where they held a fully booked audition. The team then visited the west of the country on Sunday 18 February, where they held their first audition in Cornwall, hosted by Jason Thomas Performing Arts.

Dance Days were scheduled to prepare students for the auditions the following day and were also open to aspiring young dancers from the ages of 11, who are considering auditioning when they reach 16. One young dancer who attended the Leeds Dance Day shared how she “found it a tough day, but it has really inspired her to work harder”.

Although in-person auditions have finished, prospective students can still apply through video auditions with a deadline of 1 April 2024. For all information and guidance on video auditions please visit the video auditions page, linked below.

Final auditions, in-person and online, will be taking place in late April, at The Countess of Wessex Studios in London. Successful applicants from the preliminary stage will be invited to attend. Successful video applicants will be invited to attend an online interview. All applications are judged against the same criteria, ensuring fairness and consistency across all formats of audition. Those that attend the final audition in-person will also have the opportunity to watch a Ballet Central rehearsal and meet current students.

Central has welcomed the opportunity to see a wide range of young dancers auditioning both in-person and online. Kate Coyne, Artistic Director and Professional Training Lead expressed her satisfaction: “I always enjoy the audition process, particularly searching for the key attributes and skills that we are looking for in Central dancers. This year has been a wonderful opportunity to hold auditions in new places and to meet a talented generation of aspiring dancers once again.”
