Overview

Class Content

The in-house syllabus specifically tailored across eleven levels for pupils aged 3-18 years is created to run in line with academic school years and provides a solid foundation on which aspiring ballet dancers can build. This is consistent with the approach of our Associate Programme and Undergraduate Degree Programme.

Classes commence with Pre-Ballet for children aged 3, (turning 4), in the year before they start school. The youngest levels focus on the development of rhythm, co-ordination, musicality and imagination. By Level 2 a more formal approach is adopted, building a basic knowledge of ballet vocabulary and posture. As pupils progress through the levels these core principles are expanded and refined so that by Level 6 pupils have a broad knowledge of ballet vocabulary and are beginning to develop a sense of musicality and expression. The higher Levels (7-9) are excellent training ground for pupils who may wish to pursue dance as a career as well as those who are keen to develop their hobby to a high standard. Levels 8 and 9 are two-year programmes; Level 8 is for pupils in School Years 8 and 9, and Level 9 is for pupils in School Years 10 and 11. The oldest group, the 16-18 Years Ballet is designed for pupils who have 5 years or more experience in Ballet and wish to progress with dance at college or university level.

Junior School classes take place on Tuesday to Thursday evenings from 4.30pm onwards. Boys Ballet classes are also available in the Junior school for all abilities on Wednesday evenings.
