Central alumnus shortlisted for National Dance Awards

Central School of Ballet is pleased to share that alumnus Mthuthuzeli November has recently been shortlisted for the ‘Emerging Artist Award’ at the National Dance Awards.

Mthuthuzeli November joined Central in 2015 from the Cape Academy of Performing Arts (CAPA) to perform with our touring company Ballet Central. Upon leaving Central, he joined Ballet Black as an Apprentice Artist from September 2015 where he has continued to grow and thrive as an artist and choreographer.

The National Dance Awards are organised by the Dance Section of the Critics’ Circle as an annual event to celebrate the excellence and variety of Britain’s dance industry. The awards are decided by the Dance Section of the Critics’ Circle, which consists of over 60 dance writers and critics.

The winners will be announced at a ceremony in London on Wednesday 19th February 2020.

Central 2019 graduate joins Ballet Black

This week, 2019 Central graduate Alexander Fadayiro joined Ballet Black as an Apprentice Artist.

Alexander is just the eighth dancer to join the company, founded and directed by Central Patron Cassa Pancho.

During his final year training at Central, Alex. was a member of Central's touring company Ballet Central, and also a Student Associate with Matthew Bourne’s New Adventures, with whom he continued to perform with until this Autumn in productions including Swan Lake and Romeo and Juliet.

Central wishes Alexander many congratulations and every success in this next stage of his professional performance career.

Central alumni perform on BBC One’s ‘Peaky Blinders’

On Sunday evening, two Central alumni appeared in the new episode of Peaky Blinders on BBC One.

2008 graduate Brenda Lee Grech and 2012 graduate Jacob Wye, both now company members at Rambert performed Swan Lake choreographed by Rambert artistic director Benoit Swan Pouffer.

Central alumni perform in Scottish Ballet's 'The Crucible'

This August Central alumni who are dancers with Scottish Ballet will appear in the company’s new production of The Crucible at the Edinburgh International Festival, before touring across Scotland later in the year and America in 2020.

Central’s alumni who will be performing in the work are Soloists Aisling Brangan, Thomas Edwards and Jamiel Laurence, alongside Artists Rishan Benjamin and Amy McEntee.

Based on Arthur Miller’s play of the same name, this ballet choreographed by Helen Pickett captures the emotional force of the dramatic story which will be accompanied by the Scottish Ballet Orchestra, performing Peter Salem’s new score. Learn more about the production and book tickets here.
