Older children and teenagers age 11 and above can take part in a popular programme of one day courses as well as longer programmes, such as Spring and Summer courses. The range of courses for both boys and girls are designed to offer a diversity of dance disciplines to improve classical technique as well as explore new styles of dance in the setting of a vocational Ballet school. One Day Ballet Intensive for Girls (11-13 years)

This intensive Ballet course offers participants the opportunity to improve classical technique in the setting of a full-time vocational Ballet school.

Course Outline

This course is part of Central’s popular series of One Day Ballet Intensives for girls and boys of different ages and abilities. The day aims to introduce dancers to the experience of training in a vocational Ballet school taught by Central’s Degree Programme faculty. Note that this course is specifically for girls at RAD Grade 4 or equivalent in the 11-13 age range. The one day course includes classes in Ballet and Repertoire as well as an additional discipline such as Pilates, Contemporary or Improvisation, providing participants with the opportunity to fully immerse themselves in the experience of training at Central, a world-leading professional training organisation.

Course Outline

This course is part of Central’s popular series of One Day Ballet Intensives for girls and boys of different ages and abilities that offers participants the opportunity to improve classical technique in the setting of a full-time vocational Ballet school. This course for boys and girls age 14-16 years is specifically aimed at aspiring dancers hoping to pursue vocational dance training at the age of 16.  Classes in Ballet and Repertoire are included, as well as pointe work for girls and allegro for boys. The courses also include a class in an additional discipline such as Pilates, Contemporary or Improvisation, providing participants with the opportunity to fully immerse themselves in the experience of training at Central School of Ballet. At this age level, the One Day Ballet Intensive course will also include a panel discussion about Central’s Degree course where participants will be able to ask questions about in life in a professional training environment and full-time training at Central, from the audition process to the syllabus, including fees and accommodation, answered by Central’s management and teaching body.

Dance Blast (8-16 years)

Dance Blast courses are usually a one-day event designed to offer participants the opportunity to learn and take part in an exciting range of dance styles. Dance Blast courses typically include classes in Ballet, African Contemporary, Street/Jazz and Capoeira.

Course Outline

Central’s One Day Musical Theatre Course provides participants with the opportunity to learn songs and choreography from a well-known musical. Parents are invited into the studio at the end of the day to watch a performance of songs and choreography the students have learned during the course.

Boys Move (8-17)

Boys Move is Central’s annual, one day event for boys ages 8-17 years old, open to a range of ability levels, from beginners to more experienced dancers and includes classes in a wide range of dance styles and disciplines.

Participation in Central’s Spring Course is subject to meeting the age and minimum grade requirements, boys and girls aged 11-16 years old, in school years 7-11, with a minimum of RAD Grade 5 / RAD Intermediate Foundation.

The course will take place either in person or online dependent on UK Government Covid-19 restrictions at the time.

International Summer School (11-16 years)

The One and Two Week International Summer School courses attract talented dancers from around the globe. These specialist courses provide an immersive taste of life in full-time training at Central School of Ballet and are taught by tutors from Central’s Foundation and BA Undergraduate faculty.

  • One Week International Summer School for 14-16 year olds – Participants must be in school years 10-11 and obtain a minimum of RAD Grade 5 / RAD Intermediate Foundation, or equivalent
  • Two Week International Summer School for 11-16 year olds – Participants must be in school years 7-11 and obtain a minimum of RAD Grade 5 / RAD Intermediate Foundation, or equivalent

The Two Week International Summer School also offers English classes for international participants whose first language is not English, for an additional charge, to be advised on application.

Course Outline

Dance Days are designed to provide a series of sample or taster classes to support participants’ current dance training programme, and to inform about life for students on a professional training course and how to access full-time vocational training with Central School of Ballet. The one day events are held annually in locations around the UK for young dancers aged 11-16 years who are hoping to pursue full-time vocational training in a Higher Education setting.

Dance Days include classes in Ballet and Contemporary led by Central School of Ballet’s undergraduate tutors, designed to emulate Central’s audition process. The Ballet class includes pointe work for girls and coaching for boys. A Q&A session is scheduled during the day to allow  participants and their parents to ask a panel of Central’s undergraduate teaching faculty and representatives from the school’s management team questions and learn more about auditioning and life in full time training at Central.
