Professional Performance Experience

Ballet Central, run like a professional touring company, provides a unique training experience for third year students. The company performs at up to 25 venues across the UK, and gives Central dancers a real flavour of touring life on the road.

Established Reputation

The touring company is not just a training ground for dancers, but also a highly respected and established event in the dance calendar. Each year's repertoire is developed around the artistic talents of its students. In recent years new works and revivals have been created by Richard Alston, Daniel de' Andrade, David Bintley, Christopher Bruce, Jonzi D, Christopher Hampson, Matthew Hart, Christopher Marney, Mikaela Polley and Sharon Watson.

Getting involved

Third year dancers do not just perform on stage but also contribute to lighting, costume and preparing the stage. This gives students an understanding of the whole team working behind the scenes of a dance performance, and a more rounded sense of the day-to-day life of a professional dancer.

The depth and excellence of this final year of training has seen many Ballet Central graduates go on to perform with some of the world's leading dance companies.

Joining Ballet Central

Ballet Central is an integral part of the third year of the BA Degree course. All students on the BA course become a member of the company.

"A graduate from Central School of Ballet is a valuable asset in any company for they have already experienced life as a professional dancer by touring with Ballet Central. I have had the pleasure of working with many highly talented and individual graduates of Central School of Ballet, indeed, several have played demanding leading roles in my productions with great success." Matthew Bourne, Artistic Director, New Adventures

"I can normally spot a Ballet Central student after just a few minutes working in a studio. They are always professional, they understand how 'theatre' works and they engage physically and (most importantly) verbally in the creative process." Christopher Hampson, Artistic Director, Scottish Ballet

"Central School of Ballet have had a good run this year, and this performance did nothing to dispel my thoughts that the school is reaching new heights of excellence. Also in evidence (as has been the case in previous years) were the benefits of those third year students who have been touring with Ballet Central. The stagecraft, the confidence, the technical assurance are all displayed with appropriate pride." Deborah Weiss, Dance Europe (End of Year Performance review 2015)

"Ballet Central seem to be on an onward trajectory, looking finer all the time. As usual, they brought a very diverse mixed bill to the Linbury, displaying the versatility of the graduating students to the full." Deborah Weiss, Dance Europe (Ballet Central Linbury Performance review, 2015)
